Autism Treatment

EIBI is a psychological intervention, conducted by licensed psychologists in our organisation. It is paramount for TIPO to incorporate all new scientifically validated developments within the scientific discipline of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). ABA is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory, to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior.

The TIPO treatment model has several characteristics:

a. High Intensity: The children receive between 32 to 40 hours of 1:1 treatment on a weekly basis. 10 of these hours are conducted by parents, while the rest by personnel employed by the community. TIPO does not perform low-intensive intervention, since this will not benefit the children.

b. The Staff Model: The logistical challenges when delivering 40 hours of treatment each week should not be underestimated. Regular meetings with all involved in the treatment program, ensures that everybody works towards the same goals.

c. Psychological Intervention: A licensed clinical psychologist is responsible for the intervention, and tailor-makes the intervention to each child.

d. Parent inclusion: The parents are members of the treatment team.

e. A comprehensive program: All behaviours the child needs are included in the treatment program. This includes amongst others: verbal skills, academic skills, self-help skills, play and social skills, and emotional responses.

f. Integration: When the child has required sufficient skills to interact with peers, the intervention are transferred to nurseries or schools with normal functioning children, as well as in the families own home environment.

g. Generalisation: We systematically use children without autism in the program, as role models, therapists and generalisation agents. Training is transferred to all surroundings natural to the child. All important adults in the child’s life are invited into the program.

h. Tailor-made interventions: TIPO incorporates all new scientifically validated developments within Applied Behavioral Analysis,  such as Verbal Behavior Theory and Precision Teaching.

i. Continuous evaluation of the child’s progress: The child’s progress is closely monitored. Measurements of the child’s pre-treatment IQ, pre-treatment language skills  and pre-treatment adaptive skills as measured by Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales, provides the foundation for later analysis of the child’s development during treatment. Systematic data are collected from the daily treatment, and we perform rigorous quality control of our intervention. Annual evaluation reports are provided for parents and involved community agencies.

j. Professional cooperation: We work closely with the local health service providers.
